19 de noviembre de 2009.- "Sé que provoco muchísimo dolor y rabia entre los judíos. Yo nací judía y mis abuelos fueron asesinados en el Holocausto. Muchos me consideran una traidora o creen que he enloquecido. Algunos me dicen, ¿cómo has renunciado a ser judía y tirar por la borda la memoria de tus abuelos?", explica Maor Davidovich (de 19 años) una israelí de la ciudad norteña de Carmiel.

Maor ha dejado el judaísmo. Hoy se siente musulmana. Una profunda transformación para una joven que va siempre con el velo tapando su cabeza y el Corán en mano. Su decisión originó un terremoto familiar multiplicado por las circunstancias. Basta decir que su padre es un simpatizante del movimiento ultraderechista Kaj, ilegalizado en Israel por sus ideas contra los árabes. "Somos un país muy pequeño. Y no hay suficiente lugar para judíos y árabes por lo que alguien tiene que irse y otro quedarse. Estoy a favor del tránsfer", justifica el padre, Alex.

Entre la risa y la tristeza, Maor añade: "Creo que mi padre echaría a los árabes de Israel, incluyéndome a mí". Alex aclara que "es mi hija y siempre estaré a su lado".

A los 13 años, empezó a interesarse en el Corán. "En la sinagoga no encontré las respuestas que buscaba. La primera vez que fui a la mezquita lloré sin parar. Salí de la mezquita con el corazón limpio y puro", cuenta la joven.

A los 16 años, lanzó la bomba. Se quería convertir al islam. Su madre Rafeket recuerda: "Cuando nos lo dijo, nos sorprendimos y opusimos. Intentamos convencerla. Al final solo pusimos una condición, que si ésa era su decisión final que esperara a cumplir los 18 años".

La frustración invadió a la madre. "La dije que ella nació judía y así debía continuar. Además, convertirse a otra religión es siempre complicado. No puede ser que un día se ponga el velo, entre en casa y nos diga soy musulmana, no judía".

Pero nada o nadie la hizo cambiar de opinión. Ni tan siquiera el recuerdo del Holocausto que segó la vida de sus abuelos en Europa. "Maor lleva el nombre de mi padre, asesinado por los nazis en la Shoa y cada año venía conmigo para recordar su memoria. No sé que pasará este año", se sincera la madre.

Maor dice entenderles: "Es normal que se sientan traicionados. A veces yo misma me siento muy mal ya que soy descendiente de personas que se sacrificaron, lucharon y murieron por conservar el judaísmo. Mis abuelos murieron solo por el hecho de ser judíos y ahora su nieta decide convertirse al islam".

Tras abrazar el Corán, Maor buscó en Internet una familia musulmana en Israel. "No quería abandonar a mis padres pero pensé que lo mejor para mí era vivir en un entorno adecuado a mis nuevas convicciones", afirma.

Y llegó a la familia de Ibrahim y Fatma en la ciudad árabe israelí de Um el Fajem. Sus padres -aun en estado de shock- la visitaron a su nueva casa. El reencuentro fue emotivo. Tras abrazarse, su madre le susurró: "¿Eres feliz? Si es así, yo también lo soy pese a lo que estoy sufriendo. Pero si un día te sientes mal, no te avergüences de volver a casa. Todos tenemos derecho a equivocarnos y rectificar".

Cuando pasearon por el mercado, una vendedora intentó convencer a su madre para convertirse al islam. "De ninguna manera. No porque tenga nada contra el islam sino porque estoy bien siendo judía. Uno hace un cambio tan radical en su vida cuando se encuentra en dificultades", respondió Rafeket.

La aventura de Maor en Um El Fajem no ha durado mucho y ya está de vuelta en Carmiel, con la cabeza tapada aun con el velo pero bien alta. "El islam que me da las respuestas. Debo estar aquí con mi familia. Rezar es Yihad. Respetar a tus padres es Yihad", añade.
Sin estudiar ni trabajar, prefiere dedicarse al Corán y esperar que su príncipe azul se cruce en su sorprendente camino. Un príncipe que debe ser musulmán: "Mis padres saben que si me he convertido al islam lo más normal es que me case con un musulmán. Inshalá"
